Suquamish Clearwater Resort Hotel & Spa

PROJECT: New construction of a 4-story, 85-room hotel including suites, conference space, indoor/outdoor swimming pool, and a stand-alone day spa.

CHALLENGE: Personify the culture and values of the Suquamish Tribe, whose leader was Chief Sealth, namesake of the City of Seattle, in the architecture and interiors.

STORY: D&D was originally retained to develop a master plan to help the Tribe determine how to develop their real estate holdings to compliment their existing casino. Their original thought was to build a casino hotel attached to the casino. We knew that the location on Puget Sound was their strongest asset and proposed that it should be a resort hotel oriented to take advantage of the breathtaking view of the Puget Sound.

D&D SERVICES: Master plan, programming, architecture, interior design and renovation of the existing casino

Tribal traditions and culture weave together with first class lodging amenities and technology to create a welcoming atmosphere. Subtle reminders of the Tribe's culture appear throughout the architecture and interiors.

“One of the most rewarding moments was when we returned to the hotel a year later, we were met by a native Suquamish greeter, a tribal member who meets each hotel guest upon arrival. She said, “the hotel had a spirit and energy of it’s own”, perhaps the highest compliment we could have received."
